1.4 isn't working

Postby WvV » Sat Mar 06, 2010 8:38 pm

I just did a fresh install of the 64 bit rpm version on OpenSUSE 11.1 x64. All I get is errors:

# whoami
root
# fing
Error: no network interface detected
please make sure you have administrative rights.
# fing -n 10.0.0.0/24
Error: no network interface detected
please make sure you have administrative rights.
# fing --version
1.4
Error: no network interface detected
please make sure you have administrative rights.

I'm sure my network is working! ;)

# ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr xxxx
inet addr:10.0.0.11 Bcast:10.0.0.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
...

???

Hi.

I'm sorry that OpenSUSE is currently not supported out-of-the-box (we don't run tests for this platform). May you please:

- Post the procedure you use to install the package (make sure you use Fing 64-bit versions if you use a 64-bit O.S.).
- Enable the logging in /etc/fing/fing.properties
- Run fing and send use both the output and the log file.

Hi,

To install fing 1.4, I downloaded and installed the 64 bit .rpm version, using the command line:
# rpm -iv overlook-fing-1.4.rpm

But now it seems to be working. At least I don't get the error messages I got last week. My system has changed though since last week: There was a kernel update and as a concequence I had to reboot the system...

So far so good, but what I now notice is systems going up and down between rounds all the time, which isn't as it should be. The log file in ...LOGGING.LEVEL = INFO isn't very helpfull. And with DEBUG as level, the logfile is becoming very big, in a short time. Are there other levels (I can't find documentation about this) which would be usefull for you, which I can use to create a log file and attach it here?

Hi.

The DEBUG level is useful, especially in cases when erratic behaviour is experienced. Please attach or mail us the log file at DEBUG level for inspection.
